I took the parts of you that they so quickly discarded and that no one wanted, and held them, and kissed them, and nurtured them, and loved them, and washed them, and polished them; and until I wept, extended my arms with open hands under the light of heaven—and when I drew my arms back in, I looked, and discovered that all along, I had been holding precious diamonds.

Passionate whispers linger;
I taste you;
I feel you even in my slumber.
I am reborn in you with every touch anew;
With every intimate memory kept.
I revert to them often,
And I am yours. -

Victor,
You’ve survived death. You survived the treachery of so called family. You will rise up on the wings of the archangels and see your mother’s eyes again. You will not be deterred from, or neglected happiness for any reason, for anything, or for anyone. On the ship of life you are your own captain; the seas will not always be like glass or welcoming. You will face adversity; you will face hostility; You will be required to navigate treacherous waters and come out alive. No one is responsible for you, but you. No one will throw you a lifeline if you are drowning—you must adapt and swim. It is okay to forgive the abandonment of your father, but never be like him. Cowardice is not tolerated. It is courage that runs in your blood. Your mother looks down on you and kisses her son.
Be mindful that you are now a leader, and must lead in strength and righteous judgement. You are stronger than ever before and you will not falter. The events that happened in your childhood will not haunt you; intrusive thoughts will not bother you. People of the world are easily lead astray, so when they walk the broad road, you walk the other way. In matters of love: love with reckless abandon, giving all of yourself at the risk of being hurt or betrayed. A woman among women will see your true emotions and love you more for showing your vulnerability; it will not be considered a weakness.
Furthermore, be selective in your choosing, and diligent in your approach. Be a man among men and stand on your rectitude, even when it is not popular and the masses are against you. Do not let any particular emotion control you. You are a man of deep love and a critical thinker. You carry the banner for your aunt Julia, your mother Viveca, and your grandmother, Alvara. Everyday is a new day; be thankful for what you have and be considerate and respectful of others. Always render respect first, until the person proves themselves to be underserving of respect. Never give in. Never relent. If the world turns its back on you, always know there is at least one that will always love you, and she lives in you until you see her again.

When I couldn’t love, you loved me.
When I couldn’t see, you guided me.
When I couldn’t hear,
Still, you whispered to me lovingly.
When I was cold,
In your rapture you embraced me.
In the throes of death, you revived me.
When I slept, you kissed me;
When I reached for you, you held me.
When I was listless, you willingly
Rendered to me your energy.
When I was misunderstood,
You listened to me patiently.
When they ridiculed me,
You explored the depths of me;
When the fires of hell scorched me,
You quenched me, and wrapped me
In the white wings of your glory.
If we were few and they were many,
Still, you would go to war with me fearlessly.
In battle you exhibit your ferocity,
while still retaining your femininity;
I love you;
If they were to come for you,
They would have to first face me;
And with my own blood upon me,
I would whisper to you in dying breaths,
Baby, slay them faithfully.
I marvel at your beauty;
I see you through loving eyes,
And touch you with the sincerity
Of the blood that flows within me.
You were there; You were there for me
After the treachery of my own family.
I was alone in the wilderness of desolation,
And you sent for me.
Void of feelings, you revived me
With the healing of your sensuality.
I render to you all that I am,
And all that I have eternally. -

The percussion of their heartbeat
Is the rhythm of struggle of many generations.
The agony of their fathers last words
Spoken intensely for so many summers.
They have seen the hope of dreams
Turned into the nightmares of monstrous scenes unseen;
Their fathers lie there—eyes opened, as pooled blood
Starts to run; the last remnant left behind
Of the affliction of their lives.
Mothers in unbearable anguish comfort their sons
and gently wipe the tears from their eyes;
They say, It will be alright, but in their hearts
They fear their utterances lie;
Prayers are abandoned, and faces
No longer look toward the sky.
Stark reality is lifelessness taken away on a gurney,
While eyes stare, with not so subtle apathy;
Black children ask, What does that mean for me?
Tired mothers and fathers try to answer
But voices drag wearily;
Targeted we may be, but we find our strength daily.
We will survive; even with tears in our eyes, we will survive.
In anxiety, we will survive;
In depression, we will survive;
With a generational history of PTSD, we will survive;
With OCD, we will survive;
With afflictions of all kinds, we will survive;
And after the dark winter we will thrive. -
Unexpected passionate kisses,
And utterances of loving whispers
On affectionate midnight summers,
Are the the soil, sunlight, and water
For the soul’s blooming flowers. -
In exploring your heart,
One day I became lost in you;
Still, here I abide wrapped in warmth
And in no need of rescue.Janet Jackson – Someday Is Tonight
